I always wanted to be a writer. I wrote my first novel at the age of 10. Unfortunately I soon realised there's not much money to be made in writing books, so I followed a more traditional career path, and have worked as a charity administrator for the last 20 years. I did my degree in English literature though.

I lived in north Wales for almost 20 years, and still love the area and the language, but home is an urban village in Essex. I'm married to Roderic, and have three daughters, one of whom is grown up  and married.

I became a Christian in my teens, and was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in my twenties. My faith is a big part of my life, and many of my books. My other passions are science-fiction (Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate) rock music (Imagine Dragons, Muse, Magnum, Queen, Def Leppard), and running, although not very fast.

In my last blog I talked about the expense of publicity and why, therefore, it is important to attract readers through other means. Social networking, blogging and and just being "out there" apparently helps people to know your name and have an interest in your work. I Wore a Skirt to Church on Sunday

I'm very grateful to have permission to reproduce here something by Carrie Stringham Teasdale. I've never met Carrie, but her words had quite an impression on me so I sought her out to ask whether I could share them on my blog.  As background this past Sunday, 16th December, was designated by a group of Mormon feminists as "Wear Pants [Trousers] to Church Day". They felt that being required to wear a skirt or dress to church is indicative of the oppressive and patronising attitude in the LDS church towards women. Now, whilst I'll readily admit that it is a patriarchal church, I personally have never felt less valued or respected in it, or in any way inferior to my brothers in Christ's church. I also only ever wear skirts or dresses because I find them way more comfortable than trousers. In fact, I don't currently own a pair of trousers (that fit).
